Landscape lighting, architectural lighting, facade and path lighting all work together as one in well appointed outdoor lighting

highlands-cove-5

This home has all the elements of good outdoor lighting.

As with any element of the design of your home, proper outdoor lighting should be done correctly in order to get the full effect. To give you an example of  what this means, think of your home when it was new, with barren, empty rooms. When you begin finishing out your bare room you would first choose a color scheme and adorn the walls with a medium of that color. Then you would place the rugs and furniture. Following the furniture you would add decorative accessories such as wall decor, pictures, pillows, and lamps. Take all these elements into play and you get a complete and well-appointed room, each element compliments one another to make it a room. Now take that same principle into consideration when choosing your outdoor lighting design. Landscape lighting, architectural lighting, facade lighting and path lighting all play off one another in order to create the full effect of outdoor lighting. If your home and landscape does not contain the right amount of each to properly illuminate and complement your home and surroundings then the installation doesn’t appear to be finished and will not give you the same aesthetic appeal of that as one that is professionally designed and installed.

Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting refers to lighting that is designed to accentuate your homes unique landscape. You may have specific plantings and specimens planted within your landscape that are endearing to you and desire they be lit to enjoy their beauty and appeal long into the evening, as you do in the day. Landscape lighting can also include tree lighting. Our  staff readily installs tree lighting by the use of up lighting as well as down lighting to create tree lighting that is hauntingly beautiful. When considering lighting a tree within your landscape it is important to choose a good candidate. Trees that are bushy or have crowded limbs or foliage do not illuminate as well as those with more spaced branching and less foliage. Using the right formula for tree lighting is different for each tree. Keep in mind that what may prove effective and aesthetically appealing for one species of tree, may not be what works for another. Landscape lighting and garden lighting can also be used to light borders surrounding planting beds, along fences and retaining walls, and at the base of many outdoor structures to add beauty and ambiance.

San Antonia pathway lightingPath Lighting

Path lighting can be used for safety’s sake as well as to please the eye. With Halloween just two short weeks away, could you imagine the trick-or-treaters meandering their way to your door with their satchels up a pitch dark walkway? A poorly lit entry is not only dangerous it is boring. Your home’s entrance should be that of one to welcome your guests with open arms. Path lighting is not strictly used at entrances. Path lighting can be used within the landscape to aid in safe travel and to make the surrounding area around your path more beautiful. We use path lighting in areas between outdoor structures so you may travel effortlessly from one to another during the evening hours, such as your homes pool, detached porches and much more.

Architectural and Facade Lighting

A home that is beautiful during the day is even more so under the spell of outdoor lighting. Architectural lighting refers to the lights that are placed carefully to accentuate prime design features of your home such as dormers, eaves and other unique architectural details. Facade lighting is the type of lighting used to accentuate the width and height of your home and all its unique dimensions. Carefully placed facade lighting can make your home even appear larger, wider and taller in some cases. Professional facade lighting works with and compliments the lines of your home to achieve the most positive effects. Architectural lighting and facade lighting work together as one to promote the uniqueness and individual beauty of your home as well as  to create a safer home less likely to fall prey to crime. Don’t forget your outdoor living structures either. Patios, porches, decks, pools and water features  and the like benefit greatly from the addition of outdoor lighting.

As a whole, these different genres of outdoor lighting work in unison to give you the full effect of outdoor lighting. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio has been creating mesmerizing outdoor lighting designs and applications in the San Antonio area for quite a while. Outdoor lighting is all we do, and we are good at what we do. We can meet with you to discuss an outdoor lighting design that will enhance your home completely. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio creates tree lighting that makes even old man willow blush

Outdoor architectural and tree lighting in San Antonio

Outdoor architectural and tree lighting in San Antonio

Tree lighting is definitely one of the best ways of emphasizing your landscape and residence in terms of outdoor lighting. Proper design and application can create a surreal layering effect, from light dancing along pathways to up a driveway, to using uplighting to focus the illumination on a specific conifer. With tree lighting the choices are as endless as the trees mother nature has blessed us to work with.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio creates ethereal tree lighting within many of its outdoor lighting applications. The key is to work with the natural lines of the tree you are lighting. Dense trees do not make good candidates for lighting because they not only snuff out the light, but are quite difficult to light. When choosing a tree to light you look for character, size and ultimately how the limbs are formed. An ideal scenario occurs when limbs branch over one another, in layers, and you can light the upper branches and let the light trickle down and envelop the area you are trying to illuminate. This technique creates a hauntinglydreamy effect.

Tree lighting with exposed cording is dangerous and unsightly

Tree lighting with exposed cording is dangerous and unsightly

Not only is there a method to the madness when it comes to tree lighting, there are important safety issues as well. We see tree lighting all the time that is just an accident waiting to happen, with exposed cords, drop cords and wiring that has grown into the tree wounding the bark and branches and causing it to be susceptible to diseases and insects. Outdoor lighting Perspectives of Nashville recently covered the subject of tree lighting in this informative piece… http://outdoorlightingnashville.com/2011/07/26/outdoor-lighting-perspectives-of-nashville-proves-it-is-good-to-fool-with-mother-nature-in-terms-of-tree-lighting/

This cord has actually grown into the tree, which leaves the tree damaged and vulnerable to disease and insects

This cord has actually grown into the tree, which leaves the tree damaged and vulnerable to disease and insects

When we install the tree lighting we make sure there are no exposed wires that may inhibit lawn work and maintenance and risk an injury. We also treat the tree with special care and  consideration and never cause damage that could deteriorate the tree in the future. This is why it is crucial to make sure a professional lighting specialist installs your outdoor lighting, in every aspect. After all your home is the single most expensive investment in your life, why trust your outdoor lighting that is supposed to enhance this investment’s beauty to an amateur?

Tree lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio

These mesquite trees take tree lighting to a new level, simply breathtaking

Texas has many trees native to the state that make excellent specimens for tree lighting such as the Hackberry tree, Walnuts, Maples, Oaks , Palm trees and of course the breathtaking Mesquite tree. San Antonio is fortunate to have so many beautiful specimens that are candidates for tree lighting. Whenever we enter the property of a prospective client we anticipate the outdoor lighting installation like an artist would a blank canvas.

When considering the prospect of adding light to trees within your landscape Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio has compiled a list of do’s to prepare you with the knowledge to ensure your professional outdoor lighting specialist covers all the necessary areas of importance.

Do balance the lighting so that the effect is seen in the overall application. Outdoor lighting that promotes unity and harmony within the landscape will help you achieve an overall effect, instead of spots of light that have no rhyme or reason.

Do try to layer the effect with tree lighting on multiple branches to get that haunting, dappled effect that is so aesthetically pleasing.

Do make certain the tree you are lighting is treated with TLC so as not to become damaged and vulnerable to disease and insects.

Do keep lines and powers  sources  invisible to the eye as much as possible to ensure they do not hinder the effect or become a safety hazard.

Do choose the candidates for tree lighting carefully, to get the biggest “bang” for your buck. It is also crucial not to go overboard on lighting trees, remember, less is always more.

Do choose an outdoor lighting specialist with experience with tree lighting.

No matter what type of outdoor lighting design you choose, tree lighting can give you stunning effects. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio lights the way for residents of this special city

The Spanish influenced architecture of San Antonio lends itself to beautiful outdoor lighting

elegance In Design

Texas is the second largest state, only behind Alaska, in the United States. Among Texas’ unique and diverse landscapes you have the beautiful southwestern desert, grasslands, forests, coastlines and of course the one landscape Texas is famous for – the prairie. Images of a covered wagon pulled by a team of mules transport you back into the old west and when our ancestors were planting roots in  history that will be remembered forever.

Who can forget that famous call from the Texas army under Sam Houston “remember the Alamo”.  The very place where the Alamo still stands today is what many would refer to as gem of Texas.  There is no other city quite like San Antonio. San Antonio is full of heritage and history . You will see architecture tinged with Spanish influence throughout the city itself and in the homes of its residents. Walking through the streets of San Antonio is like walking through a history book and a fairy tale at the same time. It is no wonder that San Antonio boasts a population of almost 1.33 million people. The maverick spirit which makes San Antonio all it is today is apparent all around you.

San Antonio also boasts a wide array of outdoor activities which can be enjoyed year round because of the warm climate. This warm climate is a big reason why so many people choose to call San Antonio their home. The architecture throughout the communities in and around San Antonio use many natural elements to showcase the beauty of their homes and mother natures backdrop of peaceful rivers, lush vegetation, and gorgeous native trees. Many residents also take advantage of the abundant landscaping materials such as abundant blooming flowers and plants, as well as unique shrubs and foundation plants.

No one element of your home or landscape can make more of statement than it can with the addition of professionally designed and installed outdoor lighting. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of  San Antonio has years of experience and knowledge in  illuminating architecture, pools, and landscapes for our residents. We can turn an already beautiful residence and grounds into a work of art with our outdoor lighting applications.

Outdoor lighting San Antonio

A spectacular entrance lighting.

I realize the old saying “everything is bigger in Texas” is quite often used in a positive manner. Bigger is not always better when it comes to outdoor lighting. Our fixtures are designed to do the job. Many other outdoor lighting companies install a large amount of fixtures to get the point across. This is simply not the case with lighting from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio. For example, our copper path lights only require between three and four strategically placed path lights to illuminate a standard sized walkway or entry properly and promote an alluring effect as well. We want to focus on the area or object we are lighting for you, not the fixture. Properly designed and installed lighting draws your eye to the effect it creates, not on the fixture. It is about the quality and not the quantity of the lighting that makes us unique.

San Antonio architectural outdoor lighting and pool lighting

San Antonio architectural outdoor lighting and pool lighting

If the purpose for installing outdoor lighting is to accentuate your homes unique architectural elements Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of  San Antonio knows the right fixture and the right installation of that fixture to ensure beautiful results. We often use well lights to illuminate your homes architectural breaks, or vertical lines. We are always careful to not place any light in the direction of a window. This is one major flaw that other outdoor lighting companies don’t  pay close attention to, but here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio we look at our outdoor lighting applications as an art form. We also instill the use of spot lights, and in some cases moonlighting to illuminate any peak line or dormers within your homes design.

Lighting Automation Timer

Outdoor lighting can also play a major role in the security of your residence. Advances in technology now afford homeowners the luxury of being able to control their outdoor lighting using LCA (Lighting control animation). This convenient technology will allow you to customize your outdoor lighting to come on and go off at the times that best suit you. This technology has also been carried a step further by being able to control your outdoor lighting via your smart phone. Advancements such as these will ensure you will be in the driver’s seat when in comes to lighting your home and landscape and is an effective deterrent to keep intruders away.

Comparison Shopping for Landscape Lights

In today’s economic times, it pays more than ever to do comparison shopping.  The same advice holds true when looking for a landscape lighting company to handle your landscape lighting needs.

The following list are some things you should inquire about when evaluating a Landscape Lighting Company:

  1. Reputation.  How long have they been in business?  Do they have references?  Are they a member of the local Better Business Bureau?
  2. Type of Fixtures.  Do they use a variety of fixtures based on the application, or is it “one type for all applications”?  Do they use well lights for facade lighting?  Do they do uplighting?  Downlighting?  Do they offer low voltage?  Line voltage (household current)?
  3. Quality of Fixtures.  Are they painted fixtures?  Copper?  Aluminum?  Plastic?
  4. Warranty.  What kind of warranty is offered on the fixtures?  Is the warranty for at least ten years?
  5. Service Plan.  Do they offer an annual maintenance plan?  What does it consist of?
  6. Type of Transformer.  Is the transformer a pluggable type?  Is it a multi-tap?  Is the timer built in or is it a separate unit?
  7. Lighting Control.  How is the lighting controlled?  Timer?  Photocell?  Lighting control from inside the home?  Can I integrate my porch lights and existing lights/switches with the system?
  8. Night Time Demonstration.  Do they offer a night time demonstration?  Is it complimentary?
  9. Made in the USA.  Are their fixtures made in the USA?  Are they handcrafted?
  10. Dark Sky Compliant.  Is their system Dark Sky Compliant?

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio, we’ve done your homework for you!  We’ve asked ourselves these very questions, and are proud to say we can answer each and every one of them in a manner that will benefit YOU, the homeowner!  Here are our answers to the ten areas mentioned above:

  1. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of San Antonio has been in business in San Antonio for almost two years, and is a proud member of the Better Business Bureau.  The Our parent company, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives Franchise Corporation, has been in business for almost fifteen years, and has over 70 locations around the world.
  2. We use a variety of fixtures depending upon the specific application.  We use well lights with large PAR-36 bulbs for lighting the façade, large trees, and other objects, smaller bullet type fixtures with MR-16 (projector style) bulbs for smaller shrubs, number signs, or statues.
  3. We use extruded PVC in the construction of our well lights, and all our path and specialty lights are made of solid copper.  We never use painted or powder coated fixtures, as they still peel with time.
  4. We offer a one year warranty on our bulbs, assuming a normal operation time of sunset to approximately midnight; a ten year warranty on our fixtures; a lifetime warranty on our transformers; a two year warranty on our Lighting Control Automation.
  5. We offer an annual maintenance plan, where we will come and change all bulbs, rebury exposed wire, trim shrubs, treat with fire ant retardant, and check voltages and transformer operation to completely recondition the system for another year.
  6. Our transformers are all pluggable, multi-tap transformers, which allow us to use a variety of timing systems, especially our state-of-the art Lighting Control Automation.  A multi-tap transformer allows us to fine tune the voltages at each fixture to be sure every one is between 11.0-11.5 volts.  Because the timer is a separate system, a timer failure does not render the entire transformer unusable, as happens with the cheaper integrated timer/transformer systems you find at the box stores.
  7. While we offer timers and photocells, our state-of-the-art Lighting Control Automation allows the homeowner complete control of the lighting from inside the home, along with allowing the integration of porch lights, security lights, and switches into the system, for an added level of home security.
  8. We always offer the homeowner a Night Time Demonstration, so they can see exactly what their home looks like with our lighting installed.
  9. All of our fixtures are handcrafted right here in the USA.
  10. Our low voltage systems are fully Dark Sky Compliant.
